FAQ
Here are some frequently asked questions and answers about the Hasselconverter.
Your adapter uses a 9 volt battery. The original battery was only 6 volts. Will the higher voltage of the 9 volt battery damage my camera?
The short answer is no, the higher voltage of the 9 volt battery will not damage your camera. Your camera will actually perform better. Twenty plus years of use with no reports of damage from the additional voltage. The electronics and drive motor in the 500EL series cameras is a robust and simple DC device compared to modern digital cameras with sensitive micro electronics.
You suggest Duracell or Energizer alkaline batteries for use in the Hasselconverter. Can I install rechargeable 9 volt Nickel Metal Hydride or Lithium batteries in the Hasselconverter?
I only guarantee proper fitment with the Duracell or Energizer alkaline batteries. The whole reason I developed the Hasselconverter was to ditch the rechargeable batteries and run the camera on a more common, cheap and reliable battery. That being said, there should be no problem using non rechargeable Lithium or rechargeable batteries as long as they are the exact physical size as the alkaline types. If you do this, do not use the original Hasselblad charger to charge the batteries in the camera. The old Hasselblad charger is not compatible with modern rechargeable batteries and they might explode in your camera!
If I run 2 Hasselconverters in the camera won't it raise the voltage to 18 volts?
No, the voltage will only be 9 volts.
